Before You Begin SAS OnlineTutor / Return to Menu Return to Menu

SAS OnlineTutor is designed for novice and intermediate SAS programmers who need to access, manage, analyze, or present data. As you take lessons in SAS OnlineTutor, you will be practicing your new programming skills using sample data in the actual SAS environment.

Before you begin, make sure you follow the steps below.

1
Set up your learning environment

(every time!)

  1. Every time you use SAS OnlineTutor, start a Version 8 SAS session and issue this SAS command to set up sample data:

    af c=sashelp.oltutor.setup.program

Note: You can take lessons without creating sample data, but you won't be able to complete practices.

  2. During practices, arrange your browser and SAS windows so that you can see them at the same time.

Note: Some installation configurations do not support the search facility.

  3. Enable cookies in your browser. If you disable cookies, you can't use the resume feature (see Saving Your Place below) or see lessons marked as completed on menus.
