SAS Libraries

You've learned about SAS programs and SAS data sets. Now let's take a look at SAS libraries to see how SAS data sets and other SAS files are organized and stored.

How SAS Files Are Stored

All SAS files are stored in a SAS library, which is a collection of SAS files, such as SAS data sets and catalogs. A SAS library is the highest level of organization for information within SAS software. In some operating environments, a library is a physical collection of files. In others, the files are only logically related.

In the Windows and UNIX environments, a library is typically a group of SAS files in the same folder or directory.
